The Hospital Bag and more...

When packing for a trip to the hospital to have a baby I am reminded of an episode of the Sit-com Mad About You when the two main characters are packing their bag to take to the hospital when they were expecting their baby. The woman pulls from the man's overnight bag a very large novel. She confusingly asks, "What's this for?" The man stumbles over his words a bit and then says something like,
"Well, you know,
in case there is a lull."
(Lull: A period of lessened activity.)
The woman is not amuzed and assures him that there will be no lull.
Brent and I laughed about this recently and joke in a similar manner. I ask him if he's going to stay at the hospital with me. He says,
"I'll swing by and check on you
during my lunch break."
Humor makes everything more manageable.

The Labor Shirt: A few weeks ago Brent asked me what I wanted him to wear. I knew immediately what he meant. When I'm in the hospital having a baby, he has to be wearing just the right shirt. You know, some are just more attractive. As you can see though, I'm pretty much choosing between this plaid one or that one. (Not much variety in his wardrobe.)

My emotions about the day are all over the place. So excited to meet our little girl, yet scared to death at the unknown and scary moments that labor can sometimes bring.

Plan for the day:

6:00 a.m. Call the beautiful Labor and Delivery nurses to check if there is a room open for me. (And if they say no throw a fit.)
7:00 a.m. Arrive at the hospital and hope for room #7. (I've been in there for three of my children's births so far.)
7:01 a.m Request the epidural man come visit me.
9:30 a.m Probably see the Dr. for the first time. (I guess this is where the lull might happen.)
1:30 p.m. Have a baby. Snuggle, smooch and sigh . Rest up.
5:30 p.m Dial my favorite phone numbers *5151. (Food ordering number. I love this feature.)
8:00 Watch American Idol

I cannot wait to share her first pictures with you. We are blessed. There have been so many sweet phone calls, e-mails and kind wishes. Thank you.

I have to have.....

A little late night television
and a bowl of cereal.
It's a must have!
My built in cereal bowl holder just makes it
much more convenient.

This is living!

Talent, talent, talent!!

Back in October Kenley auditioned for the All-State Youth Honors Choir. She was thrilled to make it and has been practicing the 7 songs ever since. Yesterday we traveled to Spokane for her to meet with 150 other children and a wonderful conductor who has a PhD in music and is the director of choral music education at Texas State University. In the afternoon they gave a spectacular performance for family and friends at the Spokane Convention Center.
Here she is on the drive up "pondering the notes."

At the end of the day two very blurry eyed (up since 4:30 a.m.)

parents enjoyed a Valentine date with their girls.

Oh, and speaking of talented girls in our family, this little one has a few days left to hold this pose. We all agree that holding your foot to your forehead for any length of time is a talent indeed. Ultrasound guessed a current weight of 9lbs. 3oz. Can you believe there's no "room at the Inn" for induction until the 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's past my due date. So unless some miracle occurs, and I'm not holding my breath, we're at 10 days and counting.
We're so anxious to meet this little one.

Look at the Heart

Girls, I admire your diligence in your school work
and your determination to always do your best. But what I love is the way you care for those around you
and your excellent citizenship.
That is something to be proud of.

I wonder..........

If you were wondering if a ride on a bumpy school bus for a field trip induces labor, it doesn't.

If you were wondering if I enjoy someone making me homemade pancakes with fresh blueberries...

I do.

Wonder if this little dress I started making for Kenley when she was three is going to be finished for our new baby girl?....

It will.

Ever wonder if they send a Superior court jury summons to a mother of five, due with baby number 6 in a few days...

They do.

Wonder if I enjoyed painting decor for a nursery?.........

I did.

Wonder if late pregnancy feet can be made all better with your favorite flip-flops, even if it is winter?..
They can!!!!!!!!!!!!
