Christmas of 1980 my brother received a gift from our grandma. It was the ABBA Super Trooper LP. I was totally infatuated with this group. I remember listening to this album constantly and using a hair brush as a makeshift microphone. I loved, and still love, ABBA. Last night we went to the Mamma Mia show in Spokane and it was so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and had to constrain myself from dancing in the aisles.
We drove up to Spokane early Saturday to do some spring shopping for the girls.

Look at this amazing neighborhood
The streets were tree lined and we imagined how beautiful they wood look in a few weeks. Spokane received a lot of snow Friday night. Spring is not in the air in their neck of the woods.
We visited with cousin Kristen for a few minutes and then hit the stores. After several fun hours of shopping we ate dinner at Anthony's Restaurant over- looking Spokane Falls. It was a really pretty setting.
Elizabeth and Kenley enjoying their Molten Chocolate Cake
After a very filling dinner we headed over to the shopping area. The Spurgeon's can't go to Spokane without a carousel ride, we had such a blast!!
Elizabeth has a major research project due at the beginning of June. The students could choose any subject matter imaginable. To my delight Elizabeth chose THE 1980's. I am so proud. She has already started gathering her information. Here is one of her first pictures. This is uncle Cody's pant legs that he folded and rolled up to demonstrate one style in the '80's.
So, tell us, what do you think of when you think
1980's?

That ROCKS! I am so jealous! Love ABBA. The leg hair just adds to the demonstration!
Glad you had fun. Dang we were so close to going. That cake lookes so so so so yummy.
Bye bye.
Trying to understand marriage, having kids and totally feeling out of the loop as far as what the 80's were about. I think Madonna a little. "Like a Spurgeon". So glad that you had fun in Spokane and that the girls could tag along and go shopping. That cake does look so good.
How fun! I've been dying to see Mamma Mia! Glad you could go.
1980's--Big hair w/ big bangs--remember when we all hairsprayed each side of our hair to look like wings? I also think of the music-it's so fun!
When I think of the 80's, I think of GREAT MUSIC!! I also think of new wave, skateboarders, punk, big hair, etc. And I am jealous of your little trip to Spokane -- great music and great food...nothing could be better! :)
Don't forget the layered polo shirts to go with the pegged jeans. Blue eye shadow, of course. "Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma Chameleon..." Wow- did I really grow up in that decade?
I'm with Jodi, Great music. Lindsay hit it straight on with the BIG Hair and using a bottle of hairspray in a week! I remember coming home from school and my older brother would watch MTV and I loved the Jon Bon Jovi Song, "Living On A Prayer." Good Times. You'll have to post her report. Sounds like it will be so fun! The pegged pants is awesome, and don't forget the stirrup pants, and leg warmers!
Oh yeah, your trip to Spokane looks fun. I might be the only one that doesn't know what Mamma Mia is, but maybe that's what we need to do for Spring Break! Glad you had a great time!
Well, I was 5 when the 1980's were over, so I mostly remember my favorite kid's TV shows - David the Gnome, Denver the Last Dinosaur, The Elephant Show, Mr. Wizard, etc.
Layered socks, legwarmers, off the shoulder sweatshirts and side ponytails!!
I'm still laughing at the picture of the pegged pants!! The 80's were the best! I've got some great pictures of my terrible hair-do's from the 80's, but the music was definitely the best!
I'm so glad you enjoyed Mama Mia. I too completely loved it and sang from start to finish.
Wow, Mamma Mia is definitely on my list. I love ABBA! It sounds like you had fun.
Thanks for the joke you told me about with Rylie. That was so darn funny. He must of pick that one up from the 80's.
The music and of course all things neon.
OK, that picture of the brick house....amazing! That would be my dream house. I love the colonial look.
The 80's to me, my childhood.....a few words that come to mind.......happy, fortunate, siblings, violin. Definately good memories to me.
Awww, the 80s! Loved that decade! Here's what I think of...
big hair, frizzy perms, guys had mullets or steps shaved in their hair, pastel eye shadows, blue mascara, layered t-shirts so you could cuff them with a contrasting color and even tie them in a knot at the bottom, ditto to the layered socks, rubber bracelets, great music, spandex, and everything else that was mentioned. Can't wait to hear how Elizabeth's research project turns out!
I wore blue eyeliner! And white lipstick! My friends and I would take our mom's white eyeshadow and smother or lips with it? Wierd?
I loved MTV and American Bandstand on Saturdays! I would hurry and get my jobs done and watch American Bandstand....I had my favorite dancers on it too!
I loved Madonna...."YOu may be my lucky star....cause I'm the luckiest one by far....Starlight...Starbright....First Star I see tonight!!!!"
Love the 80's!
I had a blast. I was really tired when we got home. I am shocked!!! You didn't complete the fact that after the carosel we were walking to pottery barn and they were making a movie. That would be so awesome if we ended up being in the movie.
-Kenley
What a fun trip!
When I think of the 80's I think of leg warmers, big hair, aqua net hairspray and Duran Duran. I remember when people used to do that to thier pants like that. This is to much fun. I want to read her report when she finishes it.
I think of bad music, bad hair, bad clothes, Bad Medicine. Ha ha. Not a big fan of the 80's. But seriously, everything everyone else listed.
I had to refrain myself from getting up and dancing in mama mis as well, I still can't get enough of abba and have to listen to it everyday.
