Day 5

Good-bye Chatsworth

We bid farewell to my Auntie Marion and cousin Adam and set off to meet my other Aunt and Uncle and Grandma to say our farewells. We decided to meet at Chatsworth House, residence of the Duke and Dutchess of Devonshire. The grounds were closed until March 12th, but the farm house restaurant and shop were open and we stopped for lunch.

Have you ever had a really great meal? For me, it's more than just the food. The company, conversation and ambiance were absolute perfection that day. We sat with Iain, Julie and Grandma and ate in this quaint lovely restaurant on the grounds of one of the most breathtaking places in the world. My sister recently called Chatsworth one of her favorite places, and I totally agree. This is where I went when I was a kid to spend summer afternoons picnicing on the grounds and playing in the fountain and with the animals.

I'm not sure why I am so compelled to keep showing you my food

After lunch we shopped at the Farm House shop. This store was so enjoyable, I could have stayed all day. Fresh produce, chocolates, books, chocolates, Bakewell tarts, chocolates. It was delightful. I bought a book that includes some recipes made with ingredients produced in the county of Derbyshire.

We decided to take a short walk to see the "house," (we can safely call it a mansion.) We parked in the small village of Edensor and walked over a small hill for this view of Chatsworth House . I remember touring the house years and years ago and being so intrigued by the music room. One of the doors in the room has a violin painted on it. The painting is so well done with the correct light and shadow that I thought it was real.

This day was definitely one of my favorites.

The scenery.

The company.

The memories.

Stay tuned for our final full day in England: LONDON!

Its just fantastic Deb. I just can feel the beauty in that country thru your words and the wonderful pics. That store looked so quaint and so fun to visit. Your picnic area as a child looked Anne of Green Gables like. You are so fortunate to have had this wonderful experience of good food, company and atmosphere. Thanks for sharing day 5.

How many sets of earplugs do you want Deb? Ed just brought me some. Too funny huh. Our husbands are so cute sometimes. Is that store that you featured today where you bought our wonderful chocolate too?

I just read an article in one of my magazines about the gardens of Chatsworth House. It was actually an American who designed it. How about that?
