MY FLAT IRON DOESN'T WORK????????
Does anyone else understand my:
"traveled to a foreign land,
stayed up for hours and hours,
I'm going to a wedding to see people I haven't seen in 19 years
and my flat iron doesn't work"
panic?
I had a converter, but apparantly the voltage was wrong. I attended this wedding with a frizzy hair doo, but really, does it matter?
YES! (A little bit)
I'm exaggerating, but really: you know!!!
My Aunt Marion and Cousin Adam traveled North with us to York. Along the way Adam and I talked about old times and caught up on the current. Can I just tell you that I love to reminisce. I love sentences that start with,
"Do you remember when we........."
or
"Didn't we have fun going to............."
Try it sometime with a old friend or family member, you'll be laughing in no time.
We arrived at York about 45 min. early for the wedding. Talk about leaving the gift until the last min. Yes, we went gift shopping, but quickly decided to do the American thing and give them some cash.
Walking into the church I felt a little nervous. It had been so long. Of course, there was nothing to worry about. It was so good to see everyone and catch up a little bit before it was time to go into the chapel. Here is the first glimpse of my Uncle Ian(dark hair on the right) and a ward member who was acting as the usher. I thought they looked dashing in their formal Scottish attire. My Uncle Iain explained to everyone at the reception what an honor it was for him to wear a kilt, and celebrate his Scottish heritage.

11:00 a.m. time to start: As we sat waiting for the bride, everyone in place, I was so overcome with the fact that we were actually there. Brent and I were in England together and I was so excited. No Bride.
11:15: Maybe she's having some hair issues too.
11:30: Brent had to take Britton out already. (no surprise) Members of the wedding party kept leaving the chapel and coming back and doing the, "Nope, not yet look."
11:45: Someone whispered in my ear, "Do you think she's changed her mind?" I sure hoped not, but wouldn't that be a story.
11:50: Groom exits the chapel, calmly returns a few min. later. No Bride.
11:55: Julie (my aunt and mother of the groom) returns to the chapel with the thumbs up sign.
12:00 Cue the flute player, everyone stands and in comes the bride.
One hour late, but it didn't matter a bit. She looked lovely.
She reminded me of a Maiden in a fairy tale.

(Left to Right)
Grooms Maternal Grandparents( I should really know their names) the last time I saw this couple was 30 years ago when Julie's mom made my bridesmaid dress when I was a bridesmaid for Iain and Julie's wedding, My cousin Janine, My cousin John (groom), Bride Kim, Uncle Iain Wilson, Aunt Julie Wilson, front is my Grandma, Agnes Alexander Wilson.
The ceremony and reception were very nice. My uncle was the best man and delivered a emotional speech. The food was delicious and we met some very nice people. Following the wedding we toured York. Here's a picture of the wall built during the 13th century to protect the city from invasion. (come over and I'll show you the rest of the pic's)
At the end of this day we were exhausted. I am so glad we made it. The Bride and Groom took the 5:30 p.m. train and headed to a hotel near Manchester Airport in preperation for their flight the next morning to their honeymoon destination:
EGYPT. (lucky, we went to Oregon for two days)

I laughed so hard- I think I peed a Little (J/K) - No Seriously- doesn't it seem just like when it is crucial (Expecially to your appearance) that your appliances to work- they always fail you!
Aw! I bet you were cute anyway- and it looks like you had a ton of fun!
Wow what an event for sure. An unforgettable wedding for sure. I bet everyone was sweating bullets for sure waiting for the bride. The men looked handsome in their attire. I love all the green in your pics. And as far as Egypt goes. Lucky you went to Oregon. We made it to Clover Island. And you know where that island is.
What a beautiful day. It's always good to reconnect with family.
Sorry about your hair. Is that why there are no pictures of you?
Debie, you should've worn a hat, then you wouldn't have had to worry about your hair being frizzy and not flat! HA! :) We want pictures! I can't believe that the bride was an hour late. Glad you had a great time at the wedding!
Kris- that was a good one!
Debbie it may sound weird, but I was mesmerized by the green out the windows in the Chapel. If I went to church there I would never heard a thing, I'd be staring out those windows.
Everything sounded lovely... and I'm amazed by that wall!
That says a lot about me, I'm sitting here thinking, "What green? What windows?"
I really thought the story was going to end with a runaway bride! So glad she decided to show.
I forgot to mention on your last post how awesome it was that you had the giant actor on your plane. The minute I saw his picture I thought, "Isn't that guy on Happy Gilmore?" And then I saw him standing there next to Adam Sandler in his Subway shirt. So funny.
I love reading about your trip - I checked your blog about 1123809 times yesterday waiting for the update! I wish I could come over and see the rest of the photos, but its kinda a long drive! sorry I missed your call yesterday - I was doing science with david at byu. oh and to answer your question - the sign goes on the window sill in the front room - we love it! oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
And people gave me a hard time for being 1/2 hour late to the temple on a snowy morning! I was still there an hour before the wedding. Sheesh. Did you ever find out why the bride was so late? That wall amazes me. Especially since Phyllis and I walked past a wall last week that's probably only 20-30 years old and looks like it's going to fall over anytime. They just knew how to build things back then I guess.
WHAT KIND OF A FRIEND AM I? A LOUSY ONE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DEBIE AND I AM SO SORRY THAT I MISSED THIS ONE. Do we even tell each other happy birthday? Well I know this year. Here's to you little miss britianer.
An hour late to her own wedding???? So did you ever get the scoop on where she was???
I feel your pain with the flat iron....the last time I was in europe one of my brothers left the converter behind when we left one city and traveled to the next. Needless to say...frizzy hair the rest of the trip :(
