Make it a Haven.

I love houses. When I look at a house, I know if I love it. I have to really study it though to figure out exactly what it is I like about it. I'm not detail oriented like this master, but I know what I like. There really isn't one particular style I can pinpoint as "MY STYLE."

About a year ago, we were thinking we might have to move to Utah. I immediately got on-line and started cheking out homes in the Salt Lake area. Even though we are now sure that we are staying here, I still love this process. Here are a few I found today that I adore.

I just wanted to share something that inspired me today. Brother and Sister Mouritsen in a 1980 Ensign article said,

"As we set about to make our home a holy place, we discovered that turning a house into a haven takes more than being active in the Church and participating in its programs, important as that is. Home beautification and orderliness Just as we feel the Spirit of the Lord in the clean, orderly surroundings of a chapel or a temple, we can more easily invite the Spirit of the Lord into our homes by making them clean and orderly."

We, in the Pasco Stake, have been challenged to do this by our Stake Presidency. This is my focus as I start Spring Cleaning, to truly turn my home into a haven.

I am so glad for this post! I too love homes...and I love my home. I totally and one hundred percent agree with that quote that you shared (I hadn't heard that). I thrive on keeping my home clean and orderly. I feel like it just makes our family more relaxed, and happy.

Cute houses. Too bad you didnt move down here, then we could hang out. The coupons were for things like a free back massage, doing the dishes when is his turn, help with homework, taking out the trash for him (thats really his only job), a trip to bryce canyon this summer, he gets to choose the show we watch...those sort of things. What did you do for valentines day? How did Kenley's tree go at school? Are you super excited for your trip!?

I love that quote that you put on this post Debie. Thanks for the reminder about keeping our house a haven. I've noticed that it makes a difference in my attitude if I feel I'm living in a haven. This was a great post, and those houses are beautiful!

This was so great Deb. I love all the houses and especially loved the message. At first when we were asked to be orderly in our homes, the rebellious me was like-
One more thing. But I get it now. The spirit works best in order.
Exciting news about Mattie. Their team has been working hard and I am glad to know that their effort pays off for the finals. Thanks.

Jan?? Your house doesn't look Better Homes and Gardenish all the time??? I'm shocked.

I loved the top and bottom house- but I love your house too. I think we have similar style. I like to mix and don't have a certain genre.

Oh great, one more reason for me to stress about never having a clean house. :) J/K Definitely more motivation to do it. I know nothing makes me happier than a clean house.

Spring cleaning-on my to do list. Dust is beginning to look like a decoration rather than a chore.

My mission president often said that the Spirit can not dwell in unclean places, and that includes your home. I always try to keep that in mind. I only wish my kids could grasp that concept too!

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately. Did you see the Oprah with Peter Walsh? He was saying you can't make healthy decisions in an unhealthy environment. It did make me stop and think about getting a good start to my spring cleaning.

I love all of these houses. You have great taste!!!
