There's a Criminal on the Loose!

Mug Shot: Britton Ellis Spurgeon
Crime: Dialing 911 without Probable Cause
Outcome: A Horrified Mother

Most parents of 14 month old babies are documenting their first words, or the first time they used a spoon. This afternoon, I am adding "run-in with the law" to Britton's list of firsts. This morning Britton, 14 months old, summoned two Franklin County Law Enforcement Officers to our doorstep. When I got out of the shower and saw the phone off the hook in my bedroom, I didn't think much about it, because it's a daily occurance. A few minutes later, when I heard a pounding on the door and looked out the window from upstairs- not yet in a clothing position to answer the door, I knew instantly what had happened. Throwing on whatever I could find, I rushed downstairs and encountered one policeman, another in his car obviously ready to chase anyone who might try to escape on foot. I started blabbing that I knew what had happended and I was in the shower and my baby had done it. His response, "Can I take a look around inside?" Gun drawn, (Just Kidding, but it adds to the drama) he looked around the entire house. At this point I was more worried about the messes he was about to encounter rather than the fact that I was completely wasting this officer's time. Luckily, he was super, super nice. I said a really sincere sorry, but was thinking, "Would you mind posing for a picture with Britton, because it would just really make my blog entry so much more effective." But not wanting to make light of the situation, I chickened out. Of all the thousands of number sequences a little boy could dial, why this one? Hopefully, this will be Brittons last encounter with "the law."

Deb. I am on the floor rolling, "dying" with laughter. Could Britton come over and dial 911 before I die.

Such a cute little criminal! The funniest part is that you were thinking about taking a picture with the cop for your blog post! You really should have.

First of all, he is the cutest thing I have ever seen! And, Hunter did the same thing when he was 1! The cops came to my house with a house full of company! The cops were scared for me when they saw Shane! They had to question him to see if he hadn't been beatng my up!!!! I am glad the cops take things seriously!

That is definitely an experience for the books! I take care of Jack and Cam a couple times a week and Jack is obsessed with the phone too (must be the age). I gave him an extra phone and dock, but when it loses it's charge and isn't working he loses interest, but right now my phone line is down so I can relax about who he might call out to.

Thanks for visiting my blog Deb! I have added a postscript to my blog because I think I have caused some confusion. Though we share the same zip code, those who live in the county don't have the benefit of unlimited garbage. I am sorry to be a spoil sport! I know how you love trips to the dump.

He is adorable! I am so glad the officer was nice and it's comforting to know he even came it to check for bad guys - even if you weren't expecting it;)
