Passion on a Fieldtrip?

Today was pefect weather for a fieldtrip. The McNary National Wildlife Refuge located in Burbank, Washington is an awesome place to visit. The center is staffed by numerous volunteers who are PASSIONATE about their job. The center is open to the public all day, everyday. It's definately worth the trip for you Tri-City residents.Dallin and his friend Austin

When I was a kid I never liked the question booklet you had to complete on every fieldtrip,

I thought it took the fun out of it.This is where the passion came in. This lovely woman (below)taught the kids about the wetlands and dug some critters out of the water (by wading in with her thigh high boots) to view under the microscope. At one point during the lesson a noisy bird flew over the group, she stopped and closed her eyes and listened. She was the epitome of a nature lover. I looked around the group to see the children's response to this woman who was obviously in her element, and they were right there with her. She had commanded their attention by her love and devotion to what she was involved in.

In order to see the animals at the closest possible range without scaring them, there is a wooden hut that extends over the water that you quietly sneak into and observe. I got this picture of a Yellow Headed Blackbird and turtle.

On the grounds of the refuge there is a house that holds numerous animal pelts, skeletons, bones, and stuffed birds. Construction is currently underway for a brand new center to house these treasures. I thought this owl was fascinating.
Dallin's two favorite parts?
The Wigwam

and the dead bottled up snake with it's tongue hanging out.

Our weekend got off to a great start. Enjoy the gorgeous weather!

I'm curious,

What's your Passion?

How fun to get to celebrate nature. We live in such an amazing place with so many wonderful natural things to do and explore.

First off Debie, I did this off of google reader. Can you believe it. You are my first try.

I am still sort of laughing about your description yesterday on the passion. Seriously funny. Those pictures are really good too. I love the turtle and owl. Glad the snake is in the jar. I need to close my eyes more and listen too. That is a great field trip.

My passion right now is just pure learning.... I just am so fascinated on how much there is to learn. I ponder that daily and I want to never shut the door on opportunities to learn good things about this life.

See you tonight in all our kitchen glory.

Lately my passion is coming up with ideas for things to make and sell on etsy. Seriously, I think about it non-stop. I really want to be more passionate about things in general, because I get an idea and move on so quickly to the next idea that the first one gets put aside. I think I will choose one today and run with it.

So fun for those kids! I love your description of the passionate lady and how the kids all followed her example. So cute!

Last year, Hannah went to McNary and a very passionate tick decided to come home with her. We left for a trip to Idaho the day that she went, and I didn't even think to check her for ticks or anything. Thankfully, the next day after she had a shower at my sister in laws house, she asked me to fix her hair for her. It was then that I found her passionate little friend. Yuck!!!! Luckily he hadn't settled into his new home too well, and he came out rather easily. Yuck, yuck, yuck!

right now i am loving my time doing EVERYTHING i can outside. getting my hands dirty and raking the lovely soil brings me peace. trimming the bushes and shaping the grasses brings me a sense of calmness. watching the flowers multiply and grow brings me love for all things nature :)

When I was going to CBC my science class had a field trip to McNary. I have to say it was pretty lame...nowhere as good as Dallin's sounds. We saw NOTHING. All I remember is standing in that wooden lookout thing.
My passion right now is also working in my yard. I am loving getting rid of all the old dead winter stuff and bringing the new stuff to life and making it all prettier.

My trip to McNary last year was nothing like you described, but I'm glad Dallin loved it.

My passion right now is figuring out how to get this baby born sooner rather than later...
