What are we doing for Family Home Evening?
The same question I have been asked every Monday for the last 11 years or so. My kids are perfect in remembering and unfortunately we don't own a chart that assigns the jobs out, we just go with it. When they are asked to prepare a lesson, they go ALL OUT.So last night over dinner when I got the question, I pointed to my head and gave the look like:
"I know and wouldn't you like to and you have to wait because it's a surprise."
Actually, that was my cue to start wracking my brain to come up with something at the last minute. Here's my thought bubble:
(What do these little ones need?
They need to learn how to speak kinder to one another
and notice and appreciate the good)
So we sat in a circle outside and tossed the ball to each other. It's a corny FHE standard game, but it worked for us last night and it was emotional and enlightening. Some of my favorite lines,
*Cameron I am so proud of you that you love to read and let me help you learn (Me to Cameron)
*I like you (Cameron to Brent)
*I'm glad we have a teenager in our family (Dallin to Elizabeth)
*Thanks for helping me with my math homework (Elizabeth to Brent)
*Thank you for letting me (Brent right back to Elizabeth)
*Thank you for taking Britton and playing with him after school so I can get some things done (me to Kenley)

So our camera is now an extension of my right arm, so here's a snapshot of Cameron receiving his compliment from Dallin. I love the look on his face. This "my favorite pic of the week" says it all.
Last night everyone felt good and proud and grateful.
Last night everyone felt good and proud and grateful. And then everyone attacked each other to get the ball.
"We are a Happy Family?"
"We are a Happy Family?"Here's what's making me smile today. Some lilacs from outside that have made our whole house smell scrumptious.

Here's the finished tile work around the Master Bath tub.

On to the next project!

The bathroom looks fantastic. The picture of the week is perfect. I love it. My kids love FHE and it's so fun to be together to share nice words and learn new things. What a great time you guys had!
I am soooo glad that your kids need to work on talking kinder to one another too. I don't know which I like more, the expression on Cameron's face or the flexed feet in anticipation of what is going to be said about him!
What a great FHE... and the bathroom looks nice too.
The simplest FHE's are always the best ones. I think we'll be doing that next week at our house!
I love that picture of Cameron, he looks all warm and fuzzy.
I love the thought of you gathering in a circle and just complimenting each other. That was awesome Deb. I love the new bathroom suite too. And it is a suite. Hello... That is a beautiful bouquet too. I love lilacs. They do smell so great, but they die way to soon I think. I hope that Mattie gets married around that time of their blooming. Andelins wouldn't even miss a few for arrangements. I am feeling much much better today. And you comment on the orange shirt is on my brained tattooed
what a great FHE!!!! You have such a wonderful family.
The pictures are wonderful. But the one of Cameron is the best!!!!!!

Great FHE activity. I remember doing things like that when I was younger too. I love that you took pictures of it--you are a true blogger. The bathroom really does look great. And those lilacs--beautiful! I miss lilacs. They smell wonderful.
FHE was fun. It felt great to hear great things about yourself. I love your new tiling.
Thanks for the great idea. We've done this around the dinner table but it would be fun to do outside.

I like that picture of Cameron too, sounds like a good FHE activity. David and I could try it, but it might get a little repetitive just passing back and forth.
