Boys Days

Want to see the source of my anxiety for the last few months?

Imagine being responsible for 150 scouts each with one of these sharp tools.

Imagine my relief when it was over.

The cub scouts were very responsible and it really was a lot of fun.

We have some great boys in our Stake.

The boys also did archery,

which was probably the source of anxiety for someone else.

Meanwhile,

Cameron and his cousin Tim visited the airport with Grandpa Barnes to see and tour airplanes which were in town for the fiftieth anniversary of the city of Richland.

Cameron's favorite part?

The guns and the bombs on the airplanes.

Here they are in front of a P-51 Mustang.

Want a ride?

$2,100 and you get a half hour scenic flight of the Tri-Cities in this fighter jet.

Oh, come on. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Ok, so if it weren't so spendy, would you do it?

Glad that is over with Deb. I was talking with Amy and she mentioned something about 2 cuts. I wasn't sure if involved your class your not..LOL

I would take everyone I know on that ride if I could. Sure. Why not. As long as Al Gore didn't find out about it, we would all be fine.

So cute pictures Debie. I love the archery shot and I bet Dallin was loving life this week. Your a very good sport in helping out. You are so lucky that it wasn't blazing hot like in past years.

Debie, you did a fantastic job! Easton had a great time learning how to use the knife.

I thought that you looked cool, calm and collected and I LOVED the contract the boys signed. I'm sure that made them feel some responsibility for their behavior.

You always impress me with your confidence and ease in speaking in front of groups. Bravo!

Debie, good job on a successful knife class. My mom said everything went really well. I don't think I would ever pay that much to ride in any plane, but I really don't like flying. I'm glad Cameron got to have a good time, it sounds like he is 100% boy! Great picture of Dallin at the archery class. If I was 9, that is where I would want to be too.

I would be scared to hand over knives to daring little boys too. Yes I would ride on the fighter jet but I think I'd only want to pay no more than 50 bucks.

I was talking to George when you called and asked about the picture - he was so excited that you were using one of his pictures on the blog. You're brave to work with boys and knives - I'm glad it went well! Also, I dont know if I would trust a plane made so long ago...

It's funny, when I was a kid going to cub scout camp, I never even considered that the den mother teaching the knife class would have anything to be nervous about! Now, I can't believe how brave you are to do it!

As for the plane, I'm in the Under $50 club... Although since it IS such an old plane, maybe I'd want to pay a little more, to ensure that they keep the maintenance up!

Wow! In charge of 150 boys with knives. Uh, yeah...I would have had anxiety too. I'm sure that is why you were put in charge of it though. You are always amazing at the things you do.

Even though I, of course, was not involved in any way with your day camp, I have read so much about it through everyones blogs that somehow I am feeling a huge "It's over" sigh of relief. It sounds like it turned out to be near perfect, how wonderful. Just once in my life I would love to go up in a very small plane for a scenic ride. Just not to the tune of 2100.00.

$2100....uh, no. However, you can there is a company that offers a one time $50.00 flying lesson as an introduction to flying. Anyone can do it and it is a half hour flight. I signed my brother up a few years ago for a birthday gift. Donald got to go along on the flight and apparantly it was a blast.

Thank you for your kind words this morning. Sweet thoughts and support from others really lifts my spirits at times like these. Thanks Debie :)

Scouts, Boys and knives just don't mix. Just kidding! I would love to take a scenic trip in one of those planes. So much fun.

What is even scarier than boy scouts with knives is young women which of whom half of have never even held a knife. That is scary.

I can't wait for your girls to come down for the american idol concert!!!

How glad am I that I got to go on Tuesday and watch the boys gut fish instead of carve soap? Seriously, Day Camp is boy heaven. I have to admit that once I heard you were in charge of this class, I had no reservations. Thanks for doing it!

I think I would have had a heart attack from seeing all those boys with knives in hand. But I'm sure you handled it all like a pro.

And $2,100 to fly around for 30 minutes....Ummm, no thanks. Unless it can make our little town look prettier from on high.

Glad it's over for your sake. I'd totally take that flight, but 2,100 could find something a little more worthwhile at this point in my life.

The one day that I miss, and you are teaching a class. I wish I could've been there. I did hear that it went so well. Thanks so much for teaching the boys with love and kindness! I think a lot of people are relieved that it's Friday of this week! :)

I would love to fly over the Tri-Cities. How Fun!

You are very brave. Love the photos of the boys. My hubby LOVES knives. He has many, bordering on too many. I am assuming that my boys will get early lessons.

$2100-I can think of many other things to do with $2100.

What a fun blog. We wish we would have seen it sooner so we could have entered the contest for the first aid kit. We need something like that at our house. Maybe next time.

Greg told me about Elizabeth's project at school...Fads and Fashions of the 1980's. Classic.

You are so creative, we are new to blogging. I will have to steal some of your great blog ideas.

I remember the kinfe if a tool speech very well from day camp.

I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing....

The knives and bows would scare me too! Glad everyone made it out alive :)

And if a plane ride were a little cheaper, then I'd definitely do it. Can't you fly to England for the same price? If prices are the same, $200 will get you a ride in an airplane at the Richland airport.... however, you have to jump out of it - the good news: you are strapped to someone else who knows how to work the parachute.
