Which one of these newsworthy headlines

caused the Spurgeon kids to react like this:

(Actual pictures, not re-enacted.)

Elizabeth: "Are you serious?"

Kenley: No words, just smiles.

Dallin: Scared face followed by disbelief.

Dallin: "You're kidding, right?"

Britton: (thought bubble) ("I have no idea what you're talking about.")

Cameron: Just a big grin.

Actually, it was none of the above headlines, it was this one.

"Middle aged mother of 5 in Pasco announces that in early 2009 they will be expanding their home by two feet."

I have the same look as Elizabeth. Kenley is on the phone with Mattie telling me to go to the blog now. I am so shocked. Is that what the wind blew in last night?

I was closer to your age now when I was pregnant. It will be fascinating. It is wonderful news. You have to get another van. Mattie can babysit too, if Elizabeth and Kenley want a break.

Are you sick? Let me know if I can ever do anything if you are. Wow to the news. Its a girl. I just know it.

I am so excited for you. Maybe you can pass up the woman in NC who just delivered twins that equaled 23 lbs together. ha ha ha You are the best mom I hope you have tons more.

oh yeah, I carried a thank you note around all week so I could drop in on you and Jan. But it was SO crazy. You are thoughtful and made my day.

Oh Debie THAT is so GREAT!!!!!!! And sorta funny at the same time. Years and years and years ago Brent's dad Tom ( whom I will always love and will always think of as my uncle Tom) Was teasing me because my mom had, had six children. I can't remember if she was pregnant with Mike yet or not. Anyway, He was teasing me that I better get used to the fact that when I got married to expect to have Lots of children just like my mom had. I think this was brought on by my proclaiming that I only wanted two children. I didn't have a very good retort at the time because all they had was Brent. (Oh I guess she must have been expecting Mike at the time) But I told him that I was sure that he and Phyllis would have a whole lot of kids too. He assured me that I was quite wrong. Well you know the rest of the story. They matched my mom's six and then she went and had two more, but I still remember gloating to Tom every time they had a new baby. Well I hope this wasn't too unrelated. It just was the first thing I thought of when I read your exciting news. Also I thank Heavenly Father every time a loving family like yours makes room for one more little spirit. One less spirit to end up in a sad situation.

Im am so happy for your family Debie! I love your "2 feet" addition comment, very creative. It is so fun when the kids are old enough to be excited and can understand everything that is going on!

Alicia Leppert said...

Amy called me this morning (from Florida) and said in an attempted casual way, "You have to go read Debie's blog." I thought, oh it must be a cute one. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS!! I too suspected with all the baby facts, but thought, "No way, I'm pretty sure they're done." As soon as you started showing your kids' reactions, I knew. CONGRATULATIONS!! That is so exciting! Their reactions are priceless and like Amy, my favorite part was the "two feet" comment.
