Naps and Safety

The transition between two short naps and one longer

(much more mom friendly)

nap is tough.

Last week nap time didn't come early enough for this little boy.

Today, dreamland was much more appealing than applesauce.

(Note: Britton was successfully put to bed following the photo.)

Home Safety

June is National Home Safety month. Last Monday evening we did our Home Safety check and fire drill. Should we have to escape our home, our meeting place is our mailbox. As the kids were going about their activites, I rang the fire alarm. A predetermined item was placed where a fire might be so they knew they had to choose their escape route carefully, but quickly.

Note the lack of urgency in this photo.

You have no idea how much the kids wanted to try out our second story escape ladder. We know which window we will use and the order we will escape, but the ladder manufacturer suggests not opening the ladder until needed.

Do you have a Home Safety plan?

It's a serious subject, but we had fun practicing our family plan together.

Mom I just have the need to do this...
Stay tunned for an upcoming giveaway on our blog. (I know you already know because you will be the one buying all the materials.)
We also need to plan a plan for if there is ever a chemical spill. We learned today at school.

David's mom made us some 72 hour kits and this week I have got everything together for a car emergency kit, so we're almost set. Where did you get that ladder? We would be stuck if we were in our room and the fire was anywhere else - David said he would jump out first and catch me, but I dont know about that...

When I was a teenager, we had a fire drill for FHE. We all climbed out a second story window onto the roof, and then sat there for awhile, enjoying the fresh air. We (all ten of us) got some interesting stares from people walking by!

I have to many napping in the high chair pics of my little guy. Same story, nap can't come too soon some days.
Great idea about a fire escape plan--we haven't done one yet.

Awww he is so cute! There is no way I could have that ladder and not want to try it out! (you will probably never use it anyways right?) How fun, invite us over Im sure you can get it back into the box, that can be Brents challenge! :) It really sounds like a party to me!

Way to go. I bet it feels good to know that you have a plan in tact! Thanks for the inspiration :)

Way to go with the safety situation. I need to seriously beef up the second story attempt instead of the first plan of jumping out the window.

Britton is the cutest thing on the block.. Love that mug.

Very cute pictures of Britton. While two naps is nice, it does make it hard to run any errands because they're always sleeping or eating! One long one would be nice. You guys are so great with your home safety. We have a car emergency kit and always keep a blanket in there. We really need to get our 72 hour kits completed though.

So jealous about the nap time! Hilton has never been a good sleeper at night or during the day. :(

I wish I could fall asleep while eating. Kill two birds with one stone.

Also, have you ever seen the reports about children not being able to hear fire alarms because the tone of the alarms?

My mom and I were just discussing your sweet little guy today on the way to dialysis. She just loves him. She was telling me that he is one of the happiest little people she has ever seen.
I do think about the home escape thing a couple times a year. My bedroom is downstairs, and the kids are upstairs. The only one I really worry about is Shawn. I worry that he might panic and not know what to do. I think we better do something about that and quick. Thanks for the timely reminder.

We did the exact same thing for FHE this week. I had no idea it was National Safety month though. We made a plan too. I like the idea of placing an object where the fire could be, and using your escape plan. The pictures of Britton are adorable.

You brightened up my day!
We don't have an escape plan. So your post has made me think about what we need to do. Thanks a lot!

Very good idea, it's on my to-do list today to do a safety drill for the kids.

Adorable sleeping pictures!
